Cooking for seniors can be quite a challenge because they tend to not have the same interest for food that they once did. At the same time it is highly important that they get all the nutritional value that food has to offer them.
One of the biggest problems and mistakes that is made when feeding seniors is to try and load too much on their plates. As soon as they see a plate that is laden with food they tend to lose their appetite and find that the food is just too overbearing. The first step is to cut down on the quantities while at the same time making sure that they are getting all of the food groups that they need to sustain their health.
Another mistake that is made is not realizing that their taste in food has changed and things that they may have once enjoyed they no longer do. It is important to communicate with them to find out what foods do appeal to them and strive to make sure that they have a good selection of these provided they are still within the healthy food choice range.
